Microfinancing to Assist Victims of Trafficking
Story: Tay Ninh is a province of more than one million people, in the Southeast region of Vietnam. It is located between Ho Chi Minh City and Phnom Penh, the capital of the Kingdom of Cambodia, under the Trans-Asia road. As Tay Ninh has a long border with Cambodia the province is one of the Vietnam’s hotspot for the transit of Victims of Trafficking.
Problem: Rescued Victims of Trafficking not only need financial support, but assistance in dealing emotionally with their past traumas.
Solution: The Consular Club is proud to fund micro-financing for rescued victims of trafficking, so that they are able to start their own business venture. For a small investment to each rescued victim, they are able to open businesses such as coffee shops, beauty salons, or to invest in farm animals. Recipients meet once per month to satisfy their financial obligations, nut also in the form of "self help" groups where women who have suffered similar traumas, are able to speak openly and assist each other. One of the women has started an aqua-culture business (fish farming) and another has started poultry raising (chickens). Many more women have been assisted in a range of businesses, supported by the very dedicated staff of the Women’s Union and a member of Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs. Photos of the women have not been included to protect their identity.
