Convoy for Babies - Assisting in the Delivery of Food to Orphanages
Story: The Nhà Tình Thương Chùa Diệu Pháp Orphanage is headed by a Buddhist nun from Huế who started taking in abandoned babies some 30 years ago. Being situated near many industrial zones, the orphanage gets a good supply of babies abandoned at its doorsteps.
Problem: Babies are abandoned near industrial zones in Dong Nai province. Babies without mothers do not have access to natural mother’s milk and therefore must rely on artificial means for nutrition, i.e. powdered formula. Formula is expensive, costing around 230,000 VND for a 900 gram can. Relatively speaking, this is 5% of an average worker’s salary of 4-5 million VND a month.
Solution: While the Consular Club does not directly fund the purchase / provision of foodstuffs and consumables, the Consular Club has funded the administration of the Convoy for Babies project to ensure that this worthwhile cause continues to be an ongoing event.
