Story: Dong Thap is a predominantly rural province in the Mekong Delta, with a small ethnic population. Poverty is in the 25% to 40% group, as determined by the World Bank
Problem: Every year in Vietnam, more than 14,000 children are born with congenital heart disease. Of these, 7,000 require corrective surgery and 6,000 will die without it. The cost of corrective surgery is prohibitive to the poor people of Dong Thap province. A $1,000 donation from sponsors, will ensure that a child receives the lifesaving surgery provided by doctors who donate their services to the project.
Solution: The Consular Club has donated funding to enable children to receive the surgery, and go on to lead what we take for granted as a “normal” life, free of the limitations of heart disease.
