ROP surgery for blindess in premature babies

2018

Story:  The project has been set up by a group of eye doctors in 2015, to fund individual cases for ROP – Retinopathy of Prematurity- surgeries. Since then it has changed focus more on the prevention of surgeries. This can be achieved by better and earlier diagnosis and by improving the treatment methods.

Problem: Many babies suffer from a lack of care for premature blindness, even when they are treated in HCMC, mainly due to insufficient funding.

Solution:  The target group of the project is mainly babies from the provinces who don’t receive sufficient care. The project will be able to treat between 50-75 babies (depending on 1 or 2 eyes) living in rural areas and in poor conditions.
